College Bound

Since 1995, 100% of students that wanted to major or minor in music who studied with me were accepted into one of the colleges of their choice. For students that are considering going to college to major in music, the audition preparation process does take time. I recommend starting private lessons to prepare for the process of getting ready for college auditions as soon as possible. The earlier you start with a private teacher, the stronger your skill set will be come time for auditions. To get accepted into the stronger music schools in the country, it is very competitive. Most schools have audition repertoire lists that you will need to prepare. These lists include etudes, solos and orchestral excerpts. I can help you navigate these auditions and set you up for success.

Here is an example of an audition list from 2020:

  • Haydn or Hummel Concerto, 1st and 2nd movements on Bb trumpet
  • Kent Kennan Sonata, 1st Movement
  • Charlier Etudes No. 1 and 2
  • Brandt Study 1
  • Arban’s Characteristic study no. 6 at the marked tempo
  • All Major and minor scales
  • Orchestral excerpts including Pictures at an Exhibition, Pines of Rome, Petrouschka, Mahler Symphony No. 5, Beethoven Leonore Overture No. 2, etc.

The best way to make sure you are prepared for college auditions is to find a private teacher who can help you as you progress on your instrument. Sign up today!
