“Our daughter, Nadia, had played trumpet for two years with the elementary school band when her school instructor recommended she find a private trumpet teacher to take her playing to the next level. A family friend recommended that we reach out to Michael Szczublewski, and we are so glad we did!
Once Nadia started lessons with Mr. S, her growth developed rapidly. His knowledge and expertise helped improve her skills, and, just as importantly, his enthusiasm and encouragement increased her confidence and enjoyment. Mr. S is great at establishing rapport with his students and making them feel welcome. He is quick to provide compliments and advice and has never shown any sign of disappointment or frustration when Nadia struggles. When she needs to correct something, Mr. S provides direct and friendly guidance. The results are extremely impressive.
Within a year and a half of beginning lessons with Mr. S, Nadia successfully auditioned for all-county band, the advanced band at her middle school, and a competitive youth orchestra in which most participants are two grades or more above Nadia. She is also the youngest member of an active church musical ensemble in which most members are experienced adult musicians.
Aside from musical benefits, studying trumpet with Mr. S has helped Nadia experience at least two important life lessons: (1) big problems can be solved when breaking them apart into manageable pieces, focusing on the hardest ones, and building the pieces back together, and (2) success comes from consistent and purposeful effort. These are extremely valuable lessons that carry over to all areas of life, and I am truly grateful for the role Mr. S has played in helping Nadia experience them. Although these serious benefits are very real, they’ve never gotten in the way of Mr. S’s foremost goal, which is to ensure that playing trumpet is fun.”
