Sample Trumpet Lesson Curriculum

All trumpet lessons will be individually developed for each student and below is a sample course of study. Lessons will address technique, breathing, air support, musicality, intonation, phrasing and tone production.

Elementary Students

  • Acceleration through the student’s school method book
  • Essential Elements Book 1 and 2
  • First Book of Getchell-Hovey Practical Studies
  • Introduction to solo and duet literature
  • Basic jazz concepts
  • Basic music theory

Middle School Students

  • Support provided for the student’s music needs from school
    • school repertoire
    • seating tests
    • solo and ensemble festival
    • county, regional and state band auditions
  • Walter Beeler Method for Trumpet, Book 1 and 2
  • Davis 15 minute warm up
  • First and/or Second Book of Getchell-Hovey Practical Studies
  • Voxman Selected Studies
  • Bai Lin flexibility exercises
  • Intermediate level solo and duet literature
  • Beginning Jazz Concepts and improvisation
  • Basic to intermediate music theory

 

High School Students

  • Support provided for the student’s music needs from school:
    • school repertoire

    • county, regional and state band and orchestra auditions
    • College Audition preparation
